Kathy Miller

Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern

I specialize in child therapy, with children from preschool through elementary years, having worked for many years as a School Counselor.  I have helped parents whose children have had distressing experiences, behavior problems at school or at home, excessive worry or sadness, and may even have difficulty going to school in the morning.  If you are in a situation like this and could use support, I am available to help you and your child.

I easily see the good in each child I work with.  It is from this judgment-free beginning that I will tailor the treatment to the individual needs of your child.  In this relaxed setting, I will often utilize themes observed in play-based therapy.  I also will help your child see more of their own value.  Many of the challenges they face will be better supported as your child embraces their personal strengths and improves his/her self worth.

I have received training and certification in Trauma Focused- Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT). TF-CBT is an evidence based, structured, treatment model that effectively improves a range of trauma-related symptoms with you and your child after a difficult experience. Although TF-CBT is highly effective at improving children’s trauma symptoms and responses, a PTSD diagnosis is not required in order to receive this treatment.

I am a Registered Mental Health Counselor, and a Licensed School Counselor.  I am currently under the supervision of Dr. Angela Steranko as I complete clinical hours toward full licensure as a Mental Health Counselor.

As a School Counselor with 28 years of experience in Florida, Virginia, New York and Texas, I can help you with school-specific information, such as IEP’s and 504’s.  I have assisted many parents in working together with school teachers and staff to help their child find more success.  Classroom supports and accommodations can be confusing, so I’m happy to guide you in this regard.  I strive to help children find success personally, socially and academically.

I look forward to connecting with you as you seek to help your child find a happier and more successful path.
