Dr. Angela Steranko recently completed The Pediatric Behavior Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) in-depth three-day intensive training in cognitive behavior therapy for children and adolescents with OCD and related disorders. In other words, an intensive training on working with kids with OCD. The Pediatric BTTI is overseen by leading pediatric OCD expert, Eric Storch, PhD. with additional consultations with Dr. Josh Spitalnick, who is also a leading expert in the field of pediatric OCD.
Although Dr. Steranko has completed numerous previous trainings and been working with youth with OCD for several years, she is always striving to deepen knowledge and stay current on recent research as well as treatment approaches.
The intensive BTTI training was hosted through the International OCD Foundation which is a leader in the field and gold standard for training mental health professionals to competently work with families dealing with OCD. Dr. Steranko successfully demonstrated knowledge and skill in each of the below listed areas of training.
BTTI Pediatric OCD Training focuses on:
- Design and implementation of cognitive behavioral interventions specifically exposure and response prevention.
- Incorporating family members into cognitive behavioral interventions
- Role of pharmacotherapy (medications) in the treatment of pediatric OCD
- Clinical presentation and nature of PANS. (Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome)
- Implementation of behavioral systems and utilizing Motivational Interviewing techniques and other strategies to foster motivation and treatment engagement
- Personalized treatment protocols to address commonly comorbid conditions in children and teens.
- Design and implementation of treatment plans for youth with comorbid obsessive compulsive-related disorders
