Dr. Colleen Crooms Introduction:
I am a licensed psychologist with a strong skill set and extensive experience in providing testing and therapy services for Autism, ADHD, Mood, and Learning Disorders of all ages. In my experience, it’s very important to complete a comprehensive evaluation in order to assess several factors that may be contributing to a child’s difficulties. Why is my child be acting out? Is my child falling behind academically? Why is my child struggling to follow everyday routines? Is my child meeting developmental milestones? These questions are often overwhelming for parents, but they can be clues in determining your child’s needs. If your child is struggling an evaluation can guide treatment and early intervention services.
As part of my evaluation, I offer direct observations and interviews in school, preschool, and daycare settings upon request. Furthermore, my background in School Psychology has allowed me to consult with local school districts and provide full psychoeducational assessments in addition to independent educational evaluations. A unique aspect of my services offered is my availability to participate in your child’s IEP or 504 Accommodation Plan meetings and provide education consultations.
It is important as an evaluator that parents are not navigating treatment after testing alone. In addition to testing, I also offer therapy services for emotional and behavioral regulation as well as life transitions. I utilize evidence-based treatment such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in addition to mindfulness, behavioral rehearsal, and empathy training. Education and practice in developing Executive Functioning strategies is also offered at all levels of need. Parent training is available and strongly encouraged after an initial diagnosis to provide supportive and consistent strategies to improve parent-child relationships.
